In His Steps

Where the wisdom comes from

Reflections quote only the works below. Every quotation is checked word for word against the text before you see it, and links to the passage it came from; if it can't be confirmed, the reflection puts the idea in its own words instead. Scripture is from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB), a modern translation from the Hebrew and Greek, dedicated to the public domain in 2023. The other writers are in public-domain editions from the Christian Classics Ethereal Library (CCEL), Project Gutenberg and Wikisource.

Here are all 37 of them, with links to the full texts.

Old Testament

The Psalms for prayer in every mood, the wisdom of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, and Isaiah's comfort.

The Gospels

The life and teaching of Jesus, including the Sermon on the Mount and the parables.

Paul's letters

Grace, freedom and the new life in Christ, above all in Romans, Galatians, Ephesians and Philippians.

Hebrews and the general letters

Faith that endures and faith that works: Hebrews, James, Peter and John.

The early and medieval church

Augustine's restless heart and Aquinas on grace and the virtues.

Devotional classics

Two Catholic classics long treasured by Protestants: following Christ in humility, and practising God's presence in ordinary work.

The Reformation

Freedom by faith alone, and the shape of the Christian life.

The Puritans

Searching the heart, fighting sin by the Spirit, and the pilgrim road.

Revival and the evangelical tradition

From the Great Awakening to the 20th century: true religion, daily devotion, holiness, humility and hunger for God.

Drawn on, never quoted

These writers are still in copyright, so reflections may draw on their ideas in their own words, naming the writer and book, but never quote them, and there are no links.

How quotes are checked

Claude may only quote the works on this page. Before a reflection is shown, the app looks for every quotation in its own copy of that exact edition. If the words are there, you see the source's exact wording and a link to the passage. If they aren't, the reflection puts the idea in its own words and names where it came from, rather than risk a misquotation. Claude never writes the links: they always come from this list.
